Mosaic Monday: Flowers and Father's Day

It's been a lovely Father's Day here today, with lots of love and great gifts.  I don't often write about personal things here, but I just wanted to share my lovely day with you.  I really like Father's Day better than Mother's Day.  Don't get me wrong -- I love the attention and gifts I get, but I really love to see my husband's eyes light up when the kids cook him breakfast, and bring out the gifts.  :)

The first picture of us all was taken on Block Island, probably around 1993.  My daughter was hell on wheels that year.  We actually had to put a harness on her for the ferry ride.  Yes, we were those parents.  The second photo was taken in San Francisco two years ago.  It's fun when your grown (or almost grown) children still like to go on vacation with you.  :)

I had to include some flower photos, just because that's what I love to shoot and my archives are getting rather full of unpublished work.  And you all expect flowers from me, right?  ;)

By the way, my husband's t-shirt in the first picture reads:  "Why?  Because I'm your father!"  Wishing all your fathers a wonderful day -- filled with love!  xoxo

Mosaic Monday: Yellow

I've been struggling to come up with a post for today...  I've been struggling to come up with something yellow to photograph for my Colors of 2013 group on Facebook...  I've been struggling to blog, period.

I know that these things come in cycles -- inspiration, free time, the desire to blog at all.  And every time that I come to the conclusion that I just can't seem to write another post, I also have a hard time letting go completely.  So, I guess I'm here to stay for now.  In another month or so, I will probably be filled with inspiration and have blog posts coming out of my ears...  ;)

A little bit about these photos, in case you're wondering:  the book is dated 1842.  I found it without its cover in a thrift store, and loved the title page so much that I bought it.  I was an English major in college, so I can honestly say that I've read a lot of the material as well.  The two small carved celluloid pitchers came from the thrift store as well.  They don't actually have any openings.  I guess they were just meant to be decorative.  And finally, the little framed photograph is, you guessed it, from the thrift store also.  I tend to pick up these little things with no clear idea in mind of what I will do with them.  I just recently realized that I have probably been collecting them all along with the unconscious idea of using them as photo props.  At least that's my story for now, and I'm sticking to it.  :)

Mosaic Monday: Blue (or maybe purple?)

Once again, time has gotten away from me this week, and I'm in a tizzy to post at the last minute.  (isn't tizzy a fun word?)  I've been participating in a photo group on Facebook called Colors of 2013 with Eva Ricci.  Here are my entries for the month of May, where our theme was "blue."  As I look at them gathered in this mosaic, I get the feeling that I was actually shooting purple all month...  but it is what it is, and it's June now...  :)

I'm proud to say that everything here is from my garden, which has been enjoying all the rain this season, even if the rest of us have not.  This is the first year that my clematis has taken off, and I'm thrilled!  The Siberian Iris are my old standbys.  I do love blue (or maybe purple?) flowers best...  :)

Mosaic Monday (or not): London

St. Paul's Cathedral/Buckingham Palace seen through the trees of St. James Park

Westminster Abbey/Portobello Road Market at Notting Hill

Corpus Christi College in Cambridge/Big Ben

Fenton House in Hampstead/inside Fenton House

Garden at Fenton House (both)

near Kensington Gardens/tree peony at Fenton House

I was not sure if anyone was expecting a Mosaic Monday here today because of the holiday in the United States, but here goes:

These are some of my iphone shots from my recent trip to England.  Some of you may have seen them already on Instagram or Facebook.  I have lots more yet to post, but I also have several portrait sessions to get through in the next few weeks, so editing time is at a premium.

I have attached captions to give you an idea of what each photo represents.  We stayed in the Kensington section of London, and made a few day trips to Cambridge, Richmond and Hampstead to see the architecture and gardens for which England is so rightly celebrated.  I hope to have more images ready to post in the next week or two...  :)

Time Gets Away

I'm leaving on Monday for a very last-minute trip to meet my daughter in London.  She has been spending the semester abroad, and we're going to visit a few of the sites before she comes home.  I thought that I could blog right up until the day before I leave, but that just is not going to happen...

So, while the dandelions grow in the lawn, I will be busy with last-minute preparations.  I will see you back here sometime after May 23rd.  Hopefully with lots of new photos...  ;)

Mosaic Monday: Pink Ranunculus

Just a few frames of pink ranunculus this week.  I wish I'd had more time to play with these beauties, but I was crazy busy.  I'm getting ready to spend ten days in London with my daughter, and trying my best to get three portrait sessions edited and ready for client viewing before I leave.  So Mosaic Monday will be on hiatus till May 26th.  I wish everyone a beautiful May!  xoxo

Thursday's Inspiration: Spring

There is something about naturalized narcissus that just speaks to me.  I think maybe it is the combination of elegance and comfort -- such a graceful, elegant flower growing in the midst of the shaggy spring grass...  like a beautiful woman in torn jeans and a t-shirt.  Does that make sense?

As many of you know, spring is my favorite season.  I love all the signs of new life bursting from the cold and brown winter earth.  From the early snowdrops through the golden forsythia, spring is a parade of natural wonders and a feast for tired winter eyes.  :)

Next week's word prompt is breakfast.  I will be away for the following two weeks.  I come back by May 30th, so let's do country then.  OK?  Looking forward to seeing all your inspiration!  :)
